Last weekend, as you may have seen from my blog post a couple of days ago, I was at kentwell hall reenacting. You may also know I was in the still room.
If you didn’t know that, then you do now… (please note not all of these will work although you’re welcome to try most of them some I would advise you go to a doctor)
Trex is better than normal butter….
Marygold is good for burns.
Meadowsweet is a good rubbing oil, aches and pains.
Nettle for aches and pains.
Crushed nettle for… Nettle stings…
Garlic salve for the skin in between the toes… Athletes foot…
Mint water for indigestion.
Mouse down the back of the throate of a babe when it has hooping cough to get the flem out. (this is one I wouldn’t try)
Cumphrey salve for aches and pains, cumphrey poultice to wrap around aching joints and broken bones. (if you have broken something GO TO A DOCTOR)
Sage dried and pounded with cuttlefish to make a tooth powder.
Um um um…
Rue burns in sunlight.
Wormwood and tansy chopped and put into dough to make worming pills.
Soapwort makes soap…
Angelica water to keep away the plague.
Rose water for the skin.
Elderberry syrup for the thoate.
Onion and honey for the throate.
And much more that I can’t remember right now, but I think that’s enough for now anyway.
I learnt a lot of plants and how to identify them, I learnt what a lot of things do. But most of all I had a great time at kentwell in the still room and learn a massive amount of stuff for four days!
Hope to go back soon 🙂
